Unlike legacy analog sensors (such as the 504D impact sensor or 507M tilt sensor) that rely on mechanical potentiometers and dedicated analog trigger wires, the 8504D is a fully digital, tri-function smart module. It integrates a dual-stage shock sensor, a 3-axis digital accelerometer/tilt sensor, and a cabin temperature sensor into a single micro-enclosure.

Communicating over a dedicated D2D (Data-to-Data) serial bus, the 8504D connects directly to the sensor port on DS4/DS4+ modules. All sensitivity thresholds, tilt angles, and temperature reporting limits are adjusted digitally via software (DirectLinkDT or DirectLoader app) rather than physical adjustment dials.
